Sweetwater Fiction: Originals

In addition to our annual Michigan Literary Fiction Awards, we also publish literary fiction linked to the Great Lakes region, as part of our Sweetwater Fiction series. We welcome both new and established authors. We have no restrictions as to style or subject matter, but are unlikely to consider genre fiction, such as mystery, religious, science fiction, romance, and children's fiction.

To ensure that your work receives proper attention, we ask that you submit via regular mail a cover letter and a sample consisting of approximately the first thirty pages (or two stories) of the manuscript. Provided that your work meets the above requirements, there is no need to query in advance. Work submitted without an SASE will not receive a response.

Please note: Due to new USPS safety regulations requiring that packages over 16 oz. be hand delivered directly to a post office worker, we are unable to return manuscripts, even with an SASE.
